On Monday night Erica, Rachel and I were at our computers with the FUSE channel on as background noise (it wasn't time for Heroes, yet) and all of a suddenz, I hear "I don't wanna be your loverrrrrrrr" coming from the box. I ran to the television, as did Erica, and there was Monty Are I! It was a commercial and it had video from their holiday shows in Rhode Island (my girls and I roadtripped to...). The commercial also features Permanent Me!
We obviously FLIPPED and then I called Steve and he was like, "Oh, yeah, I forgot to tell you about that..." Pfft. Enjoy. And go buy the effin' album already and check out their TOUR or I will be mad. TOUR DATES!!!!!! ![]() |

While still deathly ill, I managed to make it to the Annex last night for the Stolen Transmission Benefit Show for puppies and kitties. Erica, Rachel, Meesh and I met up with Steve and Justin from Monty Are I before the show and grabbed some pizza. Mainly because Steve only eats pizza and if any sauce besides marinara were to enter his system he would suddenly lose the ability to play mind-blowing solos. Sorta like Samson.
The show started out with an acoustic Oohlas performance; Ollie is the most adorable frontwoman!! They didn't have the drummer around, so the set was the most quiet of the night, but Ollie's voice still captured the place. And their jokes about puppies and kitties that I can't even repeat here. It was Bright Light Fever's first NYC show and they were particularly impressive. They have great energy and |

Bleary weekend - SICK.
Friday night went to a Williamsburg birthday party for Dan Ryan and two other people (I have no idea who they are...) and it was crazy dance-party fun with Meesh and Doug. Those kids know how to get down. The playlist was a bit paltry at times but they busted out some good 80s songs. Doug kept on singing the intro to "This Ain't a Scene..." and that kept the girls giggling. It also marked the first time at a party with Doug in which he wasn't the first person with his shirt off...his trademark is catching on to the masses. Erica and I headed home in the death-cold that has taken over New York this weekend and I had a restless night of sleep. I usually toss and turn anyway, but this was ridiculous. I know this interests you very much. On Saturday my minor cough developed into a full |

The wind's feeling real these days... [01.17.07]

My weekend turned into four days...five nights. What?!
Friday night. Erica, Rachel and I hit up Ruff Club @ the Annex to dance it up to DJ Rob Hitt. We were soon met with Christy and Jiscilla, plus the legendary Team Couch (aka Justin, Tyler, Nick, Pete and Megan) and the real dance party began. [Sidenote: Some of the Team Couch boys are in a band called Farewell to Arms, and if you like Glassjaw and screaming, you might like them. Personally, just not my taste, but they're good dudes...as far as dudes in '07 go.] I was kind of at my flipping out point already because they were playing stuff like Madonna, Nirvana, and then Gwen Stefani's "What You Waiting For?" - but then I completely lost it when they played "Everlong" by the Foo Fighters. And I was surrounded by my girls and I was just screaming, "If everything could ever feel this real forever! If anything could |

Monty Are I-ness.

Monty Are I's Wall of People (Stolen Transmission, 2006) Track. By. Track. First of all, this review is biased. I know entirely too much about these boys whom I've been friends with for five years. I've seen them play at VFW halls and churches. I've seen them write, create, practice, and fight. I've witnessed the sacrifices they've made just to be able to do what they love. I've never encountered people with more passion for their music, their fans, and each other than these five. So, there's no way my brain can exclude all that while listening, thinking, and writing about these songs. The great thing about music is that it aurally links people, places, things (a smell, a time, a scene, etc). A song can store memories. I think about these five hardworking boys when I listen to Wall of People. About half of the songs were
