January 29, 2007Let the Good Times Roll... [01.29.07]
Currently feeding my insomniatic (?) tendencies with Season 3 of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and my couch. I did not find David Boreanaz hot until I started watching this show. The only other guy I've been crushing is Joel McHale of The Soup. Dude would be my perfect husband. And I'm lovin' the scruff he's sporting lately.
Moving on! Had a great week. Hanging out with the Monty Are I boys always guarantees that. On Tuesday night at Black & White I had my two favorite boys on the planet - Steve & Ben - and all my girrrrrrls. I lurve them. Thursday was the best day I've had in quite a while. I had a spectacular meeting with two [amazing] women who hired me freelance to write articles for their website and edit other articles. I won't say anything more, but it's particularly exciting. I walked out of that meeting with a huge grin on my face, and I didn't care at all that the wind was basically sloughing off my face one skin layer at a time. Also, I kind of celebrated my good-moodiness by flipping out to the new Fall Out Boy on the subway ride home. I make no apologies for how dorky I am. "Thnks Fr Th Mmrs" = current flip out anthem. Friday was freezing, but I worked on an article and anticipated the arrival of Rawan's cousin Sabrina. We dance partied at Revolver and enjoyed some dollar hot dogs on the way home. Erica obviously had her slathered in cheese. On Saturday mah girls and I headed to Hoboken to visit Christy. Think of a group of 13-year-olds getting together to squeal about music, boys, gossip, make-up...and then add wine to the equation. We digress into childhood shenanigans a lot. Jiscilla arrived just as Christy, Kelly, and Erica were flipping out about Christy's Christmas decorations and the fact that she harbored a lot of Cracker Barrel paraphernalia and not one but two mini nativity sets. Named Minz Nativz and Minz-Minz Nativz. By the way, this sounds completely askew when written. It's still just as uncool, though. Jiscilla made over Christy, Erica, and I and then took pictures of us because we are girls and this was a sleepover. Then we dance partied in the living room to some videos on MTV Hits. I think it all started with Young Love's new video, which [dance] ROCKS! You can see moments from this sleepover in the pictures, along with Jiscilla's make-over of me and the subsequent photo shoot we obviously had to have. The next morning we made it to Hoboken's City Bistro for some fine brunch dining and drinks. I personally had strawberry pancakes slathered in vanilla-cinnamon syrup. How good does that sound?!!?! It was amazing. Okay, it's now Monday night and I'm wrapping this up. I'm laaazy. Random bits: If you haven't seen this yet, we're not friends. It's a YouTube'd "misheard lyrics" video for Fall Out Boy's "This Ain't a Scene..." Also into cats!!!!!!!!! Prepared to get CUTED OUT ---------------- ![]() Cutest baby EVER?! I got a Harajuku Lovers tote today for 50% off at TJ Maxx. I love good deals. I also got a dress with hearts on it because it was adorable and it makes me look five. This week = Young Love's album release TOMORROW!, Christy's birthday on Wednesday!, I'm an extra in a music video on Thursday, and a Permanent Me cd release show this weekend that Erica is making 100 tee shirts for (and I'm helping!!). Oh, and also, Erica & I saw Little Miss Sunshine this week and I'm not kidding when I say little Abigail Breslin totes reminds me of Erica at times. And apparently she was like her as a kid. AND she loved the little pink shorts/red tee outfit...so I made THIS: ![]() Now it's time for television...

January 23, 2007Through sheets you will teach and I will learn... [01.23.07]
While still deathly ill, I managed to make it to the Annex last night for the Stolen Transmission Benefit Show for puppies and kitties. Erica, Rachel, Meesh and I met up with Steve and Justin from Monty Are I before the show and grabbed some pizza. Mainly because Steve only eats pizza and if any sauce besides marinara were to enter his system he would suddenly lose the ability to play mind-blowing solos. Sorta like Samson.
The show started out with an acoustic Oohlas performance; Ollie is the most adorable frontwoman!! They didn't have the drummer around, so the set was the most quiet of the night, but Ollie's voice still captured the place. And their jokes about puppies and kitties that I can't even repeat here. It was Bright Light Fever's first NYC show and they were particularly impressive. They have great energy and are another solid band on the Stolen Transmission label - they got me moving in the audience along to the beat... Monty Are I took the stage and mah girls and I headed to the front for primo rock-out spots. We flipped as soon as they started playing "Anchor & Hope." These boys NEVER FAIL live. Any technical glitches are always outweighed by their sheer energy and talent. They're tight and intense the whole way through. They slowed it down a bit with "Just In Time" and then when Ryan & Steve started harmonizing to the beginning of "Between the Sheets" ("I don't want to be your lover/I just want to be myself") I got chills. Steve complained all night about being a bit sick and not having that great of a voice (while I hacked up my lungs), but his voice, like always, sounded amazing. He's so dedicated to this band and his music, and it's on plain view when he plays - this is how he lives, this is how he breathes. [Sidenote: If you STILL haven't purchased Monty Are I's Wall of People - wtf??? When do I NOT talk about this band?! Have I not convinced you yet that they are worth your time?! Okay, just go buy it.] Erica and I were particularly excited for The Photo Atlas because we flipped for them at CMJ. Once again, they got our hips shaking to the infectious beats of their songs. I'm talking I was simultaneously shaking my hips and pumping my fist - they are that much fun! I would have been screaming along had my voice made an appearance at all. Permanent Me!!! I had just seen them last week with Fall Out Boy, but they are sooo effin' good, I was excited to see them again! They complained about the sound during the set, and then thanked the sound guy - something I mentioned to the lead singer Brian after the show, but it was hilarious. Brian also mentioned how much fun they had on the Friends of Enemies Tour. PS Permanent Me's album comes out todaaaaaay! Buy it!!! After the shows, Monty Are I and friends were split between getting falafel or pizza. Obviously due to aforementioned marinara condition, Steve decided to get a meatball sangwich at the pizza place. A number of us dutifully followed. Now, I've been having trouble sleeping because of cough attacks keeping me up in the middle of the night (wah wah wah, I know) and so I was sitting in said pizza place slumped in my chair basically comatose. I'd only been drinking water all night (which the bartenders at the Annex sure loved refilling my tiny glass every 5 minutes), but I was pooped. Last night I couldn't sleep again, though. Today I decided I needed sleep in order to see those boys one last time before they left on tour [with Over It - check out the dates!]. So I'm currently tingly all over because I took NyQuil. Yeah. I slept a good three hours (yay!) and then it was 630 and I was like, um, I should probably eat something and now I'm writing this to keep myself up. My lips, tongue, and fingertips are tingly all over and it's really hard to not drop my head back and pass out. It's like I'm drunk. So I hope when I post this, everything is coherent. Today. OSCAR NOMS! My thoughts (I'm a dork about this shhhhhi...) - don't read if you don't care about other people's opinions about the nominations. Srsly. Leonardo DiCaprio was interestingly nominated for Blood Diamond over The Departed, and I can't help but think this is an accent thing. I'm also excited for Ryan Gosling's nomination for Half Nelson - I haven't seen the movie (I'm dying to!), but I feel like young actors don't get a lot of love from the Oscars. And I think Ryan Gosling has proven himself in other roles enough to know that there's something there. Also, I was secretly hoping to see Sascha Baron Cohen get nominated for his role as Borat, just because it would be so hilarious. In the Supporting Actor category, I was so excited to see Mark Wahlberg!!! I think the dude's got serious talent, no matter what role he's in. The Best Actress category was pretty predictable. I know Helen Mirren will probably win, though Meryl or Judi could somewhat upset. The real upset would be an Oscar to Kate Winslet or ------ Penelope Cruz! I love Penelope, just saying. Supporting actress: Cate Blanchett is an Oscar-fave, though I'm betting it goes to Jennifer Hudson since she has soooo much buzz. Imagine an American Idol reject winning an Oscar? Oh snap! Screenplays: I would really enjoy seeing Borat upset The Departed. HAHA. In terms of original screenplay, I would hope Pan's Labyrinth would win, but it could get lost in translation. Directing: Surprise that there was no nomination for Dreamgirls, and interesting that got United 93 nominated. I was also dissappointed not to see Del Toro for there for Pan's Labyrinth. Best Picture: Woooo to Little Miss Sunshine getting in there! Okay, so now comes the point to which Jessica must make a list of movies she must see before February 25th. I've been slacking this year since the New York move and tightness on money. However, I recently discovered a friend has an awesome media center set up in which movies (still in theaters) downloaded play directly to the tv. Um, I'll be spending some time catching up on: Babel, Half-Nelson, The Last King of Scotland, The Queen, Little Children, Notes on a Scandal. Also. I was a little disappointed not to see more noms for Marie Antoinette. It got nominated for best costume (which were amazing), but I thought the art direction was also superb, and I might have been happy for noms for Kirsten Dunst and Sofia Coppola. In other news, I'm still tingly but ready to brave the death-cold to hang out with those Monty Are I dudes. For probably an hour. Then I'm taking more NyQuil and hoping for a good night's sleep. I'm watching Gilmore Girls right now, and I'm sorry, but Sebastian Bach's hair is glorious. I'm a little jealous. Also, I love Sebastian Bach.

January 21, 2007That'll move the chains... [01.21.07]
Bleary weekend - SICK.
Friday night went to a Williamsburg birthday party for Dan Ryan and two other people (I have no idea who they are...) and it was crazy dance-party fun with Meesh and Doug. Those kids know how to get down. The playlist was a bit paltry at times but they busted out some good 80s songs. Doug kept on singing the intro to "This Ain't a Scene..." and that kept the girls giggling. It also marked the first time at a party with Doug in which he wasn't the first person with his shirt off...his trademark is catching on to the masses. Erica and I headed home in the death-cold that has taken over New York this weekend and I had a restless night of sleep. I usually toss and turn anyway, but this was ridiculous. I know this interests you very much. On Saturday my minor cough developed into a full blown cough-slash-wheeze when I had to trek 14 blocks to an interview in the aforementioned death-cold. The F train was not running past a certain point on Saturday, so I had to get off and walk the rest of the way in my heels - which wasn't even the painful part. When I got there the gracious interviewer totally understood my wheezing as I tried to explain to her why I'd be perfect for the job. She kept on refilling my glass of water, and I was completely embarrassed as I spazzed into coughing fits every time I came to a point. Sigh. On the plus side she said I was a) adorable, b) reminded her of Anne Hathaway from the Devil Wears Prada, except with better clothes and c) was excited about me. I've gotten these good vibes before, however, and I'm not holding my breath for anything to pan out. When I finally got home, I crawled into my tiny bed and curled smaller and smaller into a ball until my chest was forced to stop spontaneously erupting - but then I couldn't breathe at all. My spirits were soon lifted by a visit from Jiscilla, and we settled on the couch with some good grease-food and Kill Bill. [Sidenote: We all re-fell in love with Uma Thurman. And the directing/cinematography of it always mesmerizes me...] We watched the a-fucking-dorable Jeremy Piven on SNL. Some decent skits...then we took in the newly leaked FOB and opined what we thought and what we thought other people would think. [Sidenote: You know we'll also all be in the stores on February 6th buying copies...]. Today I woke up feeling worse and my lips were oddly swollen. What the eff is going on with me?! I had plans to meet up with Meesh for an all-girls Patriots game flipout get-together, but I've decided to shy away from the death-cold today so that I may be prepared for TOMORROW NIGHT. Instead, today, I loitered in my apartment with Papa John's pizza and Kill Bill Vol 2. Erica has been working on some awesome, all-original silkscreened posters for tomorrow night's Stolen Transmission show, and I've been her little assistant and paparazzo. I am taking pictures of her craftiness, and helping out when she needs it. I feel so creative with blue paint spatter on my hands... Another reason I love today, my apartment, Erica is that we're silk-screening posters and simultaneously flipping out to the Pats/Colts Game. Demonstrative pictures to come. Randoms: Check out Pan's Labyrinth. I won't even say anything about it, except that you should see it NOW. Gwen's on the cover of one of my favorite magazines, Bust [For Women with Something to Get Off Their Chests.] Thanks to my roommate Rachel, I'm getting into Buffy the Vampire Slayer on dvd. Just watched the first season, but I love it already and the traces of Buffy in one of my recent favorite shows, Veronica Mars, are unmistakeable. I love kick-ass teen girls on television. FUCK THIS GAME!!! The Colts just scored to tie it up in the 4th quarter...it was 21-3 at halftime, what's going on Pats? Here's to hoping the Pats make it to face Chicago in the Superbowl... Okay, Jiscilla just posted these pictures from last week at Ruff Club, and then there was this pic... ![]() (That's our [nice, not creepy at all] friend Justin - and I sent him the pic] Me: you. are. grabbing. your. crotch. Justin: oh man hahahaha Justin: sometimes i do that when i dance apparently Me: you and michael jackson. Justin: that picture should be burned if it could be Instead I'm posting it here. I'm evil and mean. But, come on, that's HILARIOUS. I'm stoked for tomorrow night and I hope all this tea will make me healthy for some flipping out...

January 17, 2007The wind's feeling real these days... [01.17.07]
My weekend turned into four days...five nights. What?!
Friday night. Erica, Rachel and I hit up Ruff Club @ the Annex to dance it up to DJ Rob Hitt. We were soon met with Christy and Jiscilla, plus the legendary Team Couch (aka Justin, Tyler, Nick, Pete and Megan) and the real dance party began. [Sidenote: Some of the Team Couch boys are in a band called Farewell to Arms, and if you like Glassjaw and screaming, you might like them. Personally, just not my taste, but they're good dudes...as far as dudes in '07 go.] I was kind of at my flipping out point already because they were playing stuff like Madonna, Nirvana, and then Gwen Stefani's "What You Waiting For?" - but then I completely lost it when they played "Everlong" by the Foo Fighters. And I was surrounded by my girls and I was just screaming, "If everything could ever feel this real forever! If anything could ever be this good again!!!!!!!!!" Flip. Out. The Colour and the Shape is definitely in my top five albums of all time. Saturday. I put on my iPod and did some shopping with my Christmas gift cards. The weather was a bit damp, but it was actually really warm. I called Kelly to see what she was up to and she told me to swing by 30 Rock to watch some of Jake Gyllenhaal's SNL rehearsal. Um, wait, yeah, I don't know if I have time....I was there in about 10 minutes. Seriously the fastest walk from 34th street to 49th ever. Uh, Jake is adorable, just saying. And I missed the actual SNL but whatever. I was cracking up at the meatball skit they were rehearsing. After bidding farewell to Kelly, I was so enamored of the weather and my tunes that I walked from 49th to...14th street! Legs are awesome. Saturday night. There wasn't a lot going down but then Justin and them boys (+Megan - my new friend crush to the max) called me up and we went to Capones in Brooklyn. They are the only group of people that rival the Curbside Gang's dance parties. Seriously. Together, we're an effin' dance troupe. Just take a look at these boys... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Megan!!! (And Nick...) Sunday. I spent most of Sunday on the couch, WIPED OUT. I finished Grey's Anatomy Season 2...and oh geez the last few episodes of that season kill me. Denny...McDreamy...the look! The eyes! After seeing that finale, every woman in America wanted to be looked at the way McDreamy was looking at Meredith. Woah. Then I was ready for some massive 24 flip outs. Jack Bauer is back. He will destroy anything in his path!!!! He rules. Monday night. Fall Out Boy @ The Hard Rock Cafe for a live taping. I'd like to give some shout outs to some supremely awesome girls - Lauren, Nessa, Michelle, Kerri - because they ROCK. Hmmm....Erica and I had decided to drink some wine before going and when we got there [thankyou doug], beers were being handed to us [umthanksagaindoug] and I generally lost any semblance of cool I may have had. Gurj, Doug, Erica and I were hanging out in the back like cool moms, and then...I was flipping out for FOB. I mean, I always will, but this type of flipping out was the kind where everyone the next night was telling me things I was doing to them/around them. AWESOME. Erica apparently pushed me into a mosh pit as a joke, but I just went with it...YIKES. Oh, and I had a horribly embarrassing fall. Classy entertainment for all! I was bad news, though Erica swears I was fun. HA. Tuesday night. Fall Out Boy @ Hammerstein. First of all, this show entailed the entirety of the Curbside Gang showing up for some flipping out. Permanent Me opened the show and they rocked!!! Seriously, if you haven't yet, check them oooooooooooout! Then Lifetime. Then New Found Glory - whom I haven't seen in a few years, but I got all nostalgic for the days when I used to play "Hit or Miss" on my cd player and rock out in my room. Soooo long ago! Between their set and Fall Out Boy's there was a trainwreck of a situation going on in the rafters - some girl in a cutoff jean skirt was gyrating to the rap music playing and everybody saw her vajayjay. Quite a few times. Just saying. Woah. Woah. Her friends didn't even tell her to stop....lame. The set was awesome though - I'm always ready to flip out with a sea full of teens and jump up and down pumping my fist. I'm pretty much in love with "Of all the Gin Joints" and "This Ain't a Scene" live...I love FOB shows because all of my friends [age range: 23-25] get to act like we're 15. Basically my friends make the shows...and I love them for it. So there was tons of craziness, and now I'm spent and need to watch the second half of the 24 premiere and SLEEP. Random: The Hills - Since Twenty-Four/Seven got cancelled, let us now revel in the douchebaggery of another reality tv boy - Spencer. Pretty much if you don't know what doucheslut (copyright Erica & Jessica) means, Spencer would be a prime example. Among others... Passions got cancelled. I need to find the picture of my friends and I in 2000 (omg seven years?!) when we went to a local mall to meet Jesse Metcalfe, who played Miguel at the time on the soap opera. He thought we were his biggest fans everrrrr, but we really had nothing to do and thought we'd waste some time...ps you may remember him as the gardener banging out Eva Longoria on Season 1 of Desperate Housewives... I'm so into the live [bootleg] recording of Ryan Adams' July 2006 Starland Ballroom performance. The lyrics to "Wish You Were Here" turning into "Wish I'd only made one record...Instead I made eight..." = priceless. Also, "Dear Chicago" & "Come Pick Me Up" & "I See Monsters" live....uhhhh, can't even describe... I'm pretty pumped that American Ferrera won a Golden Globe. Ugh, Jeremy Piven & ANTM's Melrose?! Seriously? ...SERIOUSLY?? Okay, I know, I know I'm a geek but I'm pretty psyched to hear that there will be a Bryan Singer-directed sequel to Superman Returns. More Brandon Routh for my salivating eyes... And to end, I'm SO EXCITED for this benefit show - it rules on SO many levels - so if you're in NYC puh-leeeeze come out and give some money to help out animals while entertaining your ears with some of the best bands out there today... ![]()

January 10, 2007If I could escape... [01.10.07]
First and foremost, Gwen Stefani released a video for my favorite
song on her latest album, and it's adorable and vomits gold at your
face. But. I love it. I even appreciate Akon, as my roommate has become fully obsessed with him.
Fuck! It got deleted off YouTube...booo - Here a link to the video! By
now you should now that Avril Lavigne is one of my guiltiest of guilty
pleasures, and I'm excited for her latest album, though I cringe at its
album title. What made me cringe more? The possiblity of this being her
album cover: ![]() Now,
the sign is okay, and I've come to terms with the title. But what
happened to the Avril of the past few months - showing up in Nylon
wearing designer clothes and joining a modeling agency? The Avril who
now softly waves her platinum hair and seems to be pleasantly married
to that other mini-Canadian? Black/Pink outfits are so...2004. I hope
she hasn't backtracked into her loud-mouthed teen years...she seemed to
be doing so well... This
morning I decided to listen to a film score on my way to work. I don't
know why, but I didn't want any music with words in it. I have a few
movie scores...I love John Ottman's score for The Usual Suspects ,
but I started listening to it and I was way creeped out by being in a
subway because the music makes you feel like there's danger lurking
around every corner and you should be afraid of something, even if you
don't know what it is. I then nixed the Marie Antoinette and Eternal Sunshine scores, and decided to listen to the Shakespeare in Love
one. I know, it's corny, right? But I love it and I don't know
why...it's very hopeful and romantic music. I was completely exhausted
from the previous day and needed something to lift my spirits. The
music makes me feel like running in a long dress across an endless
field and then jumping into a pool of water because I'm so happy I
don't care. I sound crazies, I know. However,
my commute happiness was marred by the sardine-like packing of the
train, and not being able to hear the music over a woman complaining
loudly about the situation. Sigh. On the way home I decided to listen to Midtown's Living Well is the Best Revenge.
I still love this album. I remember listening to it freshman year of
college when it first came out. I was in a new relationship and we
would rock out to it in his small dorm room when his [creep of a]
roommate was out. We'd lie in bed and talk about how our favorite song
is "Like a Movie" - and for very different reasons. Every song owns me
except for one. Listening to it brings me back to many memories over
the years, but for some reason, I thought of that one today. The
beginnings are always nice times. However, I still hate that one song. When I got home I decided to put on the old-school Midtown baseball tee (the sleeves used to be BLACK) - ![]() You're jealz, I know. I don't even know what I'm blabbering about. As
a plug, please check out Monty Are I's new tour dates with Over It and
the Summer Obsession! If you go, tell me about it. I love hearing it.
Also, if you're lurking, you can still post...even if you'd like to do
so anonymously. Even if you'd like to tell me I'm kinda ugly.
And some pics! Today Show make-up on, Today Show make-up off! ![]() ![]() I know, I look so startled in the first pic. But remember, I have pounds of makeup on in it. Also, one of my friends posted an amazing quote by Henry Rollins...which is kind of interesting given that my coworker just told me she used to date the bassist in the Rollins Band for 5 years...and then dated Henry for 2. Weird! Here's the quote: "if i was a woman these days, i'd be killing motherfuckers. my handgun would never cool & my hands would be covered in testicular blood. i would have a horrible reputation with a lot of men because i would be calling them on their weak bullshit left & right." Officially owns. Henry Rollins is so 2007.

January 9, 2007The magic's in the makeup... [01.09.07]This morning I woke up at 450 AM to get ready for "my segment" (hahaha). NBC sent a car to come pick me up in Brooklyn (holler) and I was at the studio by 545. As soon as I got there and took off my coat they whisked me into a makeup chair. TV makeup is put on by the pound!
[Sidenote: I'm wearing it still today at work...and I'll probably wear it out tonight because there's no way I get my makeup and hair did and just sit around the apartment...]
In the middle of my makeup sesh we had to break for a studio rehearsal. The segment producer, Lindsay (who's absolute adorable), and Stacy London picked me to go first. They said the first person to go on has to have the most energy... I was the shyest of the bunch (which included a bonefied model/actress...who dates the Dell guy - yeah, THAT guy...), so I don't know why I was chosen.
The segment was about after-holiday budget shopping, and I was wearing an outfit by UNIQLO. Navy shorts, beige button-up, and a plum beaded cardigan with nude-colored Nine West wedges.
After the rehearsal it was back to makeup & hair. The makeup artist made gave my lips a virtual injection - when I looked in the mirror i felt all blubbery. More Jessica Simpson than Parker. But whatevs, it's tv. She also asked what agency I was with...ummmm, no. But it felt kind of nice to be asked...mwahahaha.
The hairdresser (Jim) put my super-thick hair in a bunch of hot rollers and then I sat around sipping water through a straw (so as not to ruin my Leporish lip affect) and eating mini-muffins. I had like 5 mini-muffins - why mini? Why not regular size? I don't know.
When Jim took out my rollers and teased out my hair I felt so glamourous! He kept on saying, "Bettie Page! Bettie Page!" Hahahaha...Stacy London's make-up artist came out of her dressing room and from across the room walked up directly to me and said, "Oh. My. God. Monica Belucci. Do you know that is? Because you look EXACTLY like her. I couldn't figure it out. But I just did. MONICA. BELUCCI."
I was squealing hysterically. I looked at Chloe, the model-slash-actress (quite beautiful and super-nice with legs to there) and she thought it was pretty hilarious that I was getting such a kick out of the whole thing.
Then Kelly came to the dressing room and I had a mini-flipout with her, because I wanted to be like, Kelly, "You are so cool. You are so cool." There's a million things going on around her, and probably a million things she has to do, but she stopped by to wish me good luck and then head out to her next task...She's a doll and I think she really psyched me up for the whole thing by making me feel comfortable. She loosened me up!
Then Stacy came out wearing a LAMB dress (how perfect is that?!) and she looks at me and goes, "Who did your hair?! It looks gorgeous!!!" And I point to Jim and she gave him a million compliments.
[Sidenote: I'm going to take this moment to say that I absolutely love Stacy. She's quick-witted and smart; she speaks her mind, but she's unbelievably nice. What Not to Wear can make her seem kinda bitchy or annoying, but she's really just hilarious. She was all excited at the fitting to learn that Access or some other entertainment show wants her to do their red carpet coverage of the Golden Globes. She's personable and approachable...and she's kind of amazing. This detered me from flipping out about her LAMB dress.]
Then it was show time! We got escorted to the studio where we waited for Meredith Viera to finish up a segment about menopause. We got in line and it started! I can't really remember much of what was said while I was on, but I'll be going home soon from work to check out my DVR. They told me to smile the entire time and to be energetic. I hope I did well! I was super nervous. I definitely felt my lips quivering and seriously kept smiling because I kept on thinking of Kelly. The girl lights up my LIFE.
After I left the stage, I watched the next girls on the monitor and totally forgot all of us had to go back out at the end, so that was my awksDOTcom moment when I was shoved back out in front of the cameras and I had no consciousness of what I looked like or what I was doing. So we'll see how THAT comes out.
[Sidenote: I believe there may be a clip on the website already...but I can't watch it because of computer security at work. Regardless, there will be a clip in the near future, and I will post it for hilarity's sake...]
The whole morning was basically ridiculous, but I kind of loved it. It made me feel really good and everybody was so nice and not at all bitchy or stuck-up. I would definitely do it again. Especially since I left the studio to find a car waiting for me to take me to work. How effing awesome is that?! But you can bet that I sat in the back of that car awkwardly.
I'm about to get epiloguous (is that even a word??) -
2007 has been pretty, pretty good so far. Last week was a streak of alcohol-laden debauchery, but it was all in good cheer for the new year. Holidays should always be celebrated in week-long intervals. Of course, I usually come out of those celebrations remembering about two collected days. Hmmm. But it was a kick off, and I'm curbing my drinking for a while...
Though...2007 also brought the birth of the already-historical "Literature & Libations" Book Club. Co-founder Michelle has selected the short stories of Vonnegut's "Welcome to the Monkey House" for our first read. I'm pretty excited to see where these gatherings will lead...
Last night I had a job interview with an awesome media company and I hope, I hope, I hope I hear back! But if not, there's always next time. I'm never one to get down on this type of thing - "It's never too late to be what you might have been." (George Eliot)...
Today/TODAY was obviously tons of fun, and I'm thinking if this is only the first week and a half of the year...it's going to be a good year.

January 8, 2007I'm not the most graceful girl... [01.08.07]But they're putting me on live tv! So if you'd like to see Jessica Parker make a fool of herself, tune into the TODAY show tomorrow (Tuesday) between 8 and 9 am. I'm going to be on a segment about budget shopping w/ Stacey London (What Not to Wear) and I think it's pretty hilarious that people are letting this girl on live national television.

January 7, 2007You go on ahead, honey... [01.07.07]Incredibly, it's 2007.
I'd rehash 2006 in the life of Jessica for you, but even I don't care. It was 2006. You know what was 2006? Pants, cars, and apartments with walls. This is 2007. No pants. No cars. There's a slight chance of walls in February, though. Point is, 2006 is ovah.
My first New Year's in New York was spectacular; all of my family called and asked if I was in Times Square. Riiiiiight. My Times Square was Sarah's apartment - complimented by good people, cute pets, and amazing cheese trays. Erica, Rachel, and I met up with SuperNice Guys Ben & Aaron (they're twins), and their younger brother Zach. Ben is the nicest person I know because anything that comes out of his mouth automatically makes you feel 5 million times better. For instance, a conversation we had NYE:
Ben: Man, last Friday you were waaaaaaasted!
Me: Aw, I'm sorry if I was in any way offensive or weird...
Ben: No no no - it was great! I love seeing you girls all crazy. But you were like happy and then sad....
Me: Oh gawd, I was sad? I was the sad drunk?!
Ben: It wasn't bad at all! It was so cute, you were cracking me up. You'd be laughing and then I'd turn around and you had a sad face.
Even when I know I was probably horrendous, Ben makes me feel better about the whole thing.
Andrew of Monty Are I was also with them, so we headed over to Sarah's. I was drinking...cider. Because I'm a dork and I felt like it. Because it's in green bottles, people were like, where's the Heineken? Um, no, this is Woodchuck Cider.
Some highlights from the night included the most eye-opening conversation ever with Andrew. Seriously, my new years resolutions started with that conversation. I never have resolutions. I mean, sometimes I think that a plan is a just a list of things that don't happen. I'm a day-to-day kind of person. Moving on, I can't share my two resolutions. Sorry, way it is. But it's currently January 7th, and I'm doing very well on them, thank you.
A girl at the party came up to me when she saw my rad-ass Harajuku Lovers camera. Yeah, it was designed by Gwen Stefani, yeah, it owns, and yeah, there were only 3,000 made. I love when a conversation between strangers starts because of LAMB or HL. Yeah! [Sidenote: in fact, the other night I was out at a bar and a female drummer from a band complimented my LAMB bag and then we got to talking about LAMB sneakers and I let her in on a sale I knew of going down in the city and she was like, "Oh shit! MySpace me..." Friend made.]
Karen and I going back and forth to each other: No, you're pretty! No you're pretty!
Me (drunk) exclaiming what a fan of the Oohlas I am...to their lead singer Ollie (she's adorable). That's just me! Hahaha...oof.
Also, can I just say that Sarah, Brandon, Monkey, and Bella are the cutest lil family?!
Who did I kiss at midnight? The most dearest to my heart: Erica. She is soooo 2007, it's ridiculous.
The next day my drunken weekend caught up to me and called for the hangover tv-and-couch day. I had gotten Grey's Anatomy for Christmas, so Grey's it was. I realized that the reason this show is so appealing to females is because of how the characters are written - all the men are romantics. All the women are normal. They're flawed. But the men...these men say "I love you" first...they stare at you from across a room with all their love displayed in their eyes...they stick up for you even when they know you're wrong...they pine for you even when you make them go through loops...they crawl into the hospital bed with you even though you don't want to be touched because you just miscarried your baby and you hate everything, especially the fact that you're crying. Plus, them dudes are HOT! I could legit stare at Dr. Preston Burke/Isaiah Washington forever. Erica and I even had to slow-mo a certain scene with McDreamy because he's sooooooooo gorgeous. Srry2Say. The show also makes it very hard to like dudes in real life. And that's okay, because I have Grey's Anatomy to fulfill any longing for romance I might need.
We got a new roommate on Wednesday. She's probably the most gorgeous girl I know.
Steve was in town for a couple of days, so on Wednesday we showed him the BK and took him to Alligator Lounge. Hilarity ensued when he was challenged to Buck Hunter (an atrocious hunting video game) by Frank Stallone. (Okay, not really Frank Stallone, but he did have poofy hair and a bike jacket.) After that, Steve and I played Photohunt because we like jabbing our fingers at screens with near-nude 'babes' circa 1986 and finding photoshopped lingerie. No, seriously, it's REALLY fun. Anybody played it?
Oh, by the way I'm going to be on a national television show this week. I had to go in for a fitting on Thursday with What Not to Wear's Stacey London. (And NO, it's not for What Not to Wear). Details to come... Also, Stacey London RULES. She was talking about Oprah and Eva Longoria and she complimented my outfit. Stacey London complimented my outfit.
After the fitting I went to meet up with Erica after work and we decided to walk around because it was so nice out and then we found a Wendy's. We ate. No frosty for me this time, but I can see it happening in the near future.
From there we went to 169 Bar to see the illustrious Doug play his first show since the launching of his official website. Oh wait, second show. He opened for The Hush Sound. Check it out on his myspazz videos.
Erica, Rawan and I then went to meet up with Steve and Sarah at Revolver...kinda. Steve kept on texting me (with his new sidekick...I'm a little jealz) with stuff like: "We're going to Revolver SOON!" "We'll be at Revolver in 15 minutes!" So I was like, guess we better go....and we get there and he's NOT THERE. Lame. He came like 5 minutes later, but it's the principle of the thing. That said, Steve's visit was awesome! He's one of my best friends, regardless of how our relationship changed last year. It's good to know that I'll have a lifelong friend in him. And I made sure to thank him for his awesome-ness in the spirit of the New Year.
Friday. Let's just say the guys are so out for 2007. Seriously. I decided this on New Year's...and Friday just kind of solidified it. Erica, Rachel and I went to this bar and these two older construction-worker guys were sitting at the table next to us and were trying to talk to us and we tried to ignore them. I said, "We're having girl talk." Then one guy gets up and says to me, "You're superficial and meek." Then, he gets in my face and slurs, "YOU SHOULD BE SLAUGHTERED LIKE A PIG." Who the fuck is this guy thinking he can say that? I was obviously shaken and we left. It was the creepiest thing EVER. Later, another older guy came up to us and asked if he could take a picture of us with his blackberry. WTF? Go the fuck away. I'm so fucking over guys. I don't mean to rant about this, but I'm just tired of it all. Seeing my best friend in pain over a dude is the worst...I spent the rest of Friday night spooning Erica in her bed... 2007 is going to be a great year.
Random... Current musical obsessions... The Oohlas' "Small Parts" ("ahhhhhhhh-ah don't go out the back door aaaaaaaah-ah that's what the front's for chew me up, spit me out, i can't take anymore" - try getting those "ahs" out of your head...it's hard.) Regina Spektor's "Fidelity" Liz Phair's "Go On Ahead" Ryan Adams' "The Hardest Part" - simply for the bridge part of the song where he's like, "I could stretch that penny like a silver line / Rolling through the pages of my life / Underneath your name where it's underlined / I've been turned around / I've been MYSTIFIED" ...it rules. No Doubt's "You're So Foxy" By the way, the song of 2006 was "Discoteque" by Young Love.
