Muxtape.

Muxtape is this new site that allows you to post up to 12 mp3s for others to listen to. Listeners can't download the songs, but it's fun to listen to another person's grouping of songs! Some are heralding it as a new way of discovering music, and I'll admit that I've already downloaded a few songs just from hearing them on other people's muxtapes. Wanna hear mine? Go here:

Photobucket

I decided to make a somewhat happy mix...check it:

01. Baby Got Going - Liz Phair
02. Last Night - Motion City Soundtrack (my fiancee's band!)
03. Up in Arms - Foo Fighters
04. Momentum - Aimee Mann
05. Monday Night - Ryan Adams
06. Pas De Cheval - Panic at the Disco (I'm obsessed with this album!)
07. Wake the Sun - The Matches (one of the best songs to start off your day with!)
08. Castlebound - Monty Are I
09. My Boyfriend's Back - The Raveonettes
10. Hey Baby Remix - No Doubt (feat. Outkast)

Tell me what you think! Also, I LOVE hearing new music so make one yourself and leave me the link here!

My Top Albums of 2007 [12.27.07]

Here it is - I tried to be succinct about my explanations! There is always a disclaimer before such lists, because of how haughty some people get regarding one's own opinion. Just remember that I haven't had a chance to listen to every release of 2007 (i.e., Neon Bible), which may be because I don't have lots of cashish and it's not my job to listen to music all the time. These are my personal favorites of 2007, and I wouldn't expect anybody else's list to look exactly the same - the beauty of differing opinions. What are your top ten releases of this year?

01 Motion City Soundtrack, Even If It Kills Me
Even if I wasn't, ya know, it would still be at the top of my list. I've enjoyed every release from Motion City, and I think their musical evolution is near flawless. Each album is better than the last, and I thoroughly appreciate the 90s alt-with-synth sound of EIIKM. The lyrics continually mesmerize me, because the brevity of the words are often disguised by the pop of the music. Favorite song: "Last Night"

02 Tegan & Sara, The Con
The Con resonates like an album I would have made had I had any musical talent. Certain lines stand out and hit me hard ("Nineteen"), sometimes the sound of the music itself would haunt me as I lay down to sleep ("Dark Come Soon"). But most of all, the sisters Quin have created a complete album creatively and emotionally. Favorite song: "Call It Off"

03 Dashboard Confessional, The Shade of Poison Trees
I struggled between Dashboard and Ryan Adams. Both amazing albums, but for the longest time I couldn't decide which I liked better. My final decision proves that though both singer/songwriters have been favorites of mine for more than five years, TSOPT's risky effort bested Adams' safer "commercial return." Though Dashboard also called his album a return to form, the lyrics aren't whiny and there is (thankfully) more than just his voice and an acoustic guitar represented. I guess this is growing up, right? Favorite song: "These Bones"

04 Ryan Adams, Easy, Tiger
Ryan ranks as one of my top five artists of all time. That said, with his myriad of releases since 2000's Heartbreaker, Ryan's voice has never sounded so good. The songs are reminiscent of previous releases - "Goodnight Rose" recalls his Cardinals records, "Halloweenhead" injects a little of his dot com releases, and "I Taught Myself How to Grow Old" could have been on Heartbreaker. Each track delivers - something Ryan's struggled with in his past couple of albums. Favorite song: "Halloweenhead"

05 Against Me!, New Wave
You should know by now I'm a big fan of fist-pumping. I can appreciate a band with songs that have a message and a good hook. It was my first time seeing them live in September, and I was mesmerized. Thank you, Jesse, for passing along the album. In a year replete with sugary pop-punk, it was good to find some rock and a growl. Favorite song: "Thrash Unreal"

06 Lily Allen, Alright, Still
Gotta love a girl with sass. I could bounce down the street with this album every day. Even in the dead of winter, with the wind lashing at my face, I listen to this album and smile (no pun intended) because it feels like summer shining down on me. I love how it sounds so happy, but if you listen to what she's saying, she's calling someone a twat. And it's usually a dude. Favorite song: "Alfie" (right now, but it switches between "LDN" and "Knock Em Out," too)

07 Foo Fighters, Echoes, Silence, Patience and Grace
Okay, we all know I love Dave Grohl. If anything, the Foo Fighters are consistent. Nothing, in my opinion, has surpassed The Colour and the Shape, but ESP&G rocks, rolls, and soothes. It's quite a mix of the hard-hitting and the acoustically memorable. Dave even brings out a piano for one of my faves on the album, its heartfelt ender - "Home." Favorite song: "Stranger Things Have Happened"

08 Fall Out Boy, Infinity on High
Yes. FOB has made my tops of 2007 list. The album's infectious! It started out my year with my girls. It's fun to hear a band that knows exactly where they stand - delivering lines like "he tastes like you only sweeter" to their gaggle of fangirls waiting to eat up Wentz's lyrics. It's tantalizing sugar ready to be consumed; Babyface knows what's up. Favorite song: "Better with a Pen (Fame>Infamy)"

09 M.I.A., Kala
I didn't much like this album when I first heard it, but after giving it another try last month, I've come to love it. Arular is one of my favorite albums ever, and though Kala doesn't quite live up to its predecessor, the global beats remain riveting, her use of sampling is fun and intriguing and her lyrics have grown even more compelling. Favorite song: "Paper Planes"

10 The Photo Atlas, No, Not Me, Never.
Admittedly, I heard this album at the end of 2006 after rocking out to them at CMJ. However, it was officially released in March this year, and I still enjoy the hip-shaking, hand-clapping beats. It's hard to listen to this album sitting down...or walking down the street: I always want to dance. Favorite song: "Handshake Heart Attack"

VOTE FOR MCS ON TRL ! [10.30.07]

Okay, I know our faith in MTV has faltered. Last night I was watching the ridiculous show "Kaya" that just dropped the word "cutter" and this is after being duped into feeling sorry for Whitney on a clearly edited scene in "The Hills."

BUT! TRL still exists in all its glory (sans emaciated Carson Daly) and TODAY Motion City Soundtrack will be up for votes! If you haven't watched the video for "This is for Real" - do so NOW! Above! Because it rules. Did you watch it?? How can you not vote for that video?

And pretty pretty please start voting NOW for MCS HERE!

And, ya know, keep voting. 'Cause it'd be pretty sweet to see even a teeny bit of something awesome like Motion City on a channel that makes me feel guilty for knowing the names Heidi and Spencer.

MOTION CITY SOUNDTRACK - EVEN IF IT KILLS ME [09.18.07]

Motion City Soundtrack has been one of my favorite bands since first witnessing their live show nearly five years ago. During college you could usually find me bouncing around getting ready for class to the pop beats of "The Future Freaks Me Out" on their first release, I Am the Movie. I fell even more in love with their second album, Commit This to Memory, where I found their signature dark themes covered in sugary music from "Make Out Kids" to "Hold Me Down."

Today, their third, and in my opinion, their best, album comes out - Even If It Kills Me. Their progression from IATM to CTTM to EIIKM is seamless: each album has evolved to the next logical level without being predictable or mediocre. It's most definitely MCS, but full of surprises. Like their other albums, Justin Pierre's lyrics are cause for repeat listens ("Last Night"), the synth keeps me jumping on my bed ("Fell In Love Without You"), and the songs were produced by greats Ric Ocasek ("This is for Real") and Adam Schlesinger & Eli Janney ("Antonia"). I can't even go into how much I love this album.

I will say that "Last Night" is my favorite song.

Hopefully you've seen their ridiculously hilarious bowling video for "This is for Real" and have already bought the album...or are heading out to get the album...NOW! :)

secretshow

There's a MySpace Secret show tonight in New York City @ the Knitting Factory! It's free and you will most definitely see me there :) 7 pm!

Also, their live shows are incredible - check them out this fall with Mae, Anberlin, and Metro Station.

Did you buy it today? What do you think of Motion City Soundtrack's latest?

TUESDAY THE TWENTY-SIXTH!!! [06.26.07]

This Tuesday is great for two reasons:

1.

Ryan Adams' Easy Tiger is released today!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You'd think I had it already, but, unfortunately, I'm waiting to buy it in the store after work. Review is obviously forthcoming. Ryan is also playing live at Hiro Ballroom tonight, but tickets went on sale about two days ago and sold out in five seconds. I'm still STOKED on this album, however. At least I'll have some sort of motivation to get through the work day!!

2.

Motion City Soundtrack's digital single, "Broken Heart" is available for download!! Motion City has always impressed me since first seeing them live years ago, and they never disappoint. Everyone should be beyond stoked for their latest album to drop on September 18th...though this creative and catchy song should at least help to hold you over on your eager anticipation. Oh, and it has an adorable video that goes with it too!

HAPPY HAPPY TUESDAY!

If anything could ever be this good again... [05.24.07]

I just got really excited.

The Colour and the Shape

It's been ten years (May 20, 1997) since one of my favorite albums EVER came out: the Foo Fighters are re-releasing The Colour and the Shape on July 10th. A pinnacle album of my lifetime, I can still remember being a high-schooler and rocking out in my room when I first heard "Monkeywrench" on the radio. When the album came out, I was amazed at the fact that I loved every single song. "Walking After You," "Everlong," and "Hey, Johnny Park!" remain my favorites. Foo Fighters were also my first concert (with Ben Folds Five).

So, what does this reissue offer me???

MORE SONGS! According to this article:

In addition to the original album on its first disc, the new version will feature covers of Killing Joke's "Requiem," Gary Numan's "Down in the Park" and Gerry Rafferty's "Baker Street," plus the B-sides "Drive Me Wild," "Dear Lover" and "The Colour and the Shape."

I understand that I could probably get those b-sides if I wanted, but the Foo Fighters are so ingrained in my brain as 90s, that I never associate the band with all the downloading and technology goings-on. Does that even make sense? For instance, if I hear The Killers have a b-side I can download, I'm there - but downloading never comes to mind for Foo Fighters.

They're currently recording with Gil Norton, producer of Colour. Is it just me, or have most of their albums post-Colour been not as awesome? I still enjoy them, but nothing can touch those songs. Maybe it was the time, the era. Hm.

In summary, I'm ready.

Currently working on:

- Oh, DJ Rosstar, how you're guiding my music catologue-ing. I'm in a group here on Buzznet called "5 Songs That Changed My Life." I have everything written out, I just need to find time to post it with a picture. You can bet a pick off Colour is on my list.

- DJ Rosstar also recently asked the top five albums you can listen to all the way through. Upon thinking about it, it's kind of hard. I have to rethink a list I already posted over at my livejournal two years ago...it's new criteria, and it's definitely changed. Erica & Bree & John & Michelle already have awesome lists !

Um, who's as stoked on 90s alternative as I am?? I need to go listen to some Garbage now or something...

Easy Tiger - Ryan Adams. Get Stoked. [05.15.07]

Okay, I'm pumped.

Ryan Adams just added a new song, "Two" to his MySpace page.

I think it's amazing. It gives me goosebumps. I'm a bit of a Ryan Adams maniac, if you didn't know. I'm ecstatic for this album. I know there's a lot of bootlegs floating around the internets, but I just have to wait for June 26th and take it in all at once. And then over and over and over again...

Stephen King (yeah, that dude!) wrote a a little bit about Ryan that's currently displayed in the product description for Easy Tiger on Amazon. Apparently he's a fan, and I kind of love it:

It was, Ryan Adams says, this girl he's been spending time with; the title of this album is her fault. "She wanted to go out to dinner at eight; I wanted to go right away. She said, 'Easy, Tiger.' And that hit me. It stuck with me to the point where I called up Neal [that would be Neal Casal, guitarist of The Cardinals] and left a message on his answering machine with those two words. 'Don't forget this,' I said, 'cause I want to use it.'"

Adams laughs and adds, "I think he's still got that message."

And I understand that. Some things you just save, because they're worth playing over again.

I think there are really only two kinds of pop music CDs these days. There are the ones you listen to only once or twice, maybe downloading the single good song to your iPod or computer; then there are others that grow stronger, sweeter, and more necessary each time you play them. Gold was that way; Cold Roses was that way; so was Jacksonville City Nights. I won't say Adams is the best North American singer-songwriter since Neil Young...but I won't say he isn't, either. What I know is there has never been a Ryan Adams record quite as strong and together as Easy Tiger; it's got enough blue-eyed, blue-steel soul (with the faintest country tinge) to make me think of both Marvin Gaye and the Righteous Brothers. Probably ridiculous, but true. And the songs themselves are beautiful-- the lyrics tightly focused and brief, the feeling one of melancholy calm that will probably be a revelation to fans that remember the old, sometimes angry Ryan Adams.

He agrees that the tone of Easy Tiger is different-- not dark, just different-- and suggests in passing that it may have something to do with both sobering up and growing up (he's 32). Then he goes on to talk about the process, which is clearly something close to his heart. "I write on a manual typewriter," he says. "I get up, I have a cup of coffee, I sit down at the typewriter. I never spent a useless day behind a typewriter."

I say amen to that, but he's already going on.

"It's like-- I don't know, sometimes it's like chasing a pretty girl on the beach. And things I never thought I could do...I can do."

I mention how prolific he is, aware that I might be touching a sore point. After all, there are plenty of critics who seem to think that's a bad thing. Adams, however, just laughs.

"Yeah, yeah, in America people give you shit for working hard," he says. "But...it's process, that's all. I process things. I went into the dream business. If people need 'em, I've got extra."

He talks enthusiastically about all the unreleased material he hopes to set free in a box set, maybe at the end of the year ("If people hear it all, then they'll get the connections," he says), but that's then. Now there's this, maybe the best Ryan Adams CD ever. And I know you want to listen to it right away. But slow down. Take your time. This album asks for that, and it will reward your full attention.

In other words-- easy, Tiger.

--Stephen King

BAMBOOZLE [05.10.07]

What better to bring me back to this journal than Bamboozle? Plus, I finally have a bit of time to waste at work, and this weekend ruled my life. Might as well tell you about it. I did last year.

On Friday night I was going to head out to that new buzzed-up-the-ass place Angels&Kings (aka the Crush Bar) for the return of the Stolen Transmission party (Ultragrrrl&KarenPlusOne's dj sets always rock this body!) but LeBoy had me itching to see him in New Jersey. He'd been gone a while, see.

The next morning LeBoy and I headed to Giant's stadium after a solid brunch with the Great American Freedom Machine. Seriously, I ate everything off my plate, and days later I still remember this meal [I am still enjoying this gum! ]. But don't let me fool you - this mere moment of tasty bliss was not the highlight of my day!

There was a lot of people there. Sweating. Heat. Emo kids. Hardcore kids. Parents. Jersey parents (more on that later). Band dudes. VIPs. Internet celebs (Jeffree Star is one skinny dude). Expensive foodz. Merch. Hos. Bros. People I don't exactly "get" ( Cute is What We Aim For fans, high-profile groupies, that HeyChris dude, Yellowcard). Rides. Fake band names. Band names that really should be fake (The Devil Wears Prada , Elmo's Big Band).

To quote Erica: "Don't you feel like you're just standing in a vat of ketchup?"

Yes. And some of those kids' fashion choices literally almost made me vomit. Nip slips and overhang and people who should keep their t-shirts on...sends shivers just recalling it all.

LeBoy and I checked out Limbeck, whom I've actually never heard before, but I think I might like them if I got their stuff. We got our picture taken by the AOL blog PopEater because LeBoy has some sort of cred or something - I don't quite know what for, as I don't really know him all too well.

LeBoy's friend Trevor Kelley was there, as was his co-author, Leslie Simon, who's a little bit of a hero of mine. She's the managing editor of Alternative Press magazine. She was super nice, and sorry if I sound uber-dorky here saying that I was ecstatic to be introduced to her. Leslie & Trevor just released a book you should pick up and read at night right before you cry yourself to sleep on that homemade pillowcase with Gerard Way's face on it. Everybody Hurts: An Essential Guide to Emo Culture. Get into it.

Backstage I ran into my friend Emily & Shawn Harris from The Matches. Shawn was wearing red L.A.M.B. sweatpants. Emily turns to me and goes, "I got those at the sale you told me about!!" Then to Shawn: "I wouldn't have even gotten those for you if it wasn't for this girl." And Shawn thanked me. I have to admit, that was pretty sweet.

Also backstage, LeBoy and I ran into Jeff from Cartel...whom I know from doing the "Say Anything (Else)" video. However, LeBoy's former booking agent put money down on a challenge between these two involving a certain talent they both purportedly have -- and the opponents haven't even met. I think they'll be saving the challenge for tv -- if you haven't heard, Cartel's doing Band in a Bubble - they go into a glass house here in NYC for a month to record their new album for the MTV cameras. So...file that under "coming soon."

And then I saw Gerard Way -- and oof, that food poisoning does not look fun. Mikey Way & Alicia were there too, though, I don't think he was playing. LeBoy tells me they have a really cute puppy, but, alas, I was not around to see it. I also saw that assface Shaant and he was looking grody and tre doucheslutty.

A bunch of people apparently wanted LeBoy's autograph (why?!) and so I found the Curbside Gang and we settled at the back of the massive main stage crowd for Cartel. Solid, fun set! After a quick run to the port-o-potty (shudder) and some slight LeBoy stalking (you're still signing shit?!) I headed back for Say Anything.

The girls and I decided to get into the crowd for this one. While we were waiting among the sweaty teens, we saw a guy walk by holding up a sign he had made out of the side of a cardboard box and a sharpie. It read: "Rachael Sanborn your boyfriend misses you. He's right here" with an arrow pointing down. Hilarious. Then Say Anything finally came out with "Alive with the Glory of Love" and the crowd obvs flipped. This blond highschool age bro in front of us looked back at one point and said, "Hey - wanna go up?!" FALSE, kid. Crowdsurfers are beyond obnoxious, just sayin.

Well, after almost being pummelled to death by those rabid Say Anything fans, we decided to hang out in the back with the cool kids. You know, who are 45 and looking at their watches and plugging their ears while trying to keep track of their offspring. Whatevs. When they played "Wow I Can Get Sexual, Too" we had a little Curbside danceparty.

Breaktime. We were eagerly anticipating the Great American Freedom Machine's set. We sat on a curb (like ya do) and I played with a stick (yeah, I don't know...) and then we headed into the crowd for the show. Basically, GAFM is a Motion City Soundtrack tribute band. And when I say tribute, I mean they eerily looked exactly like them, too. It was all our fave songs, and we rocked out. I seriously almost lost my voice, and I know I'm a total nerd for admitting that. GAFM shows have always been fun. Always! They even covered Motion City's new song, "This is For Real," and since I spent hours watching the YouTube video, I sang along as much as I could. I was the only fist-pumper during that song...whatevs. The keyboards though, he rocks a little too fast for love, I think. Also, he's kind of super-hot. Don't tell LeBoy.

After their set, the girls headed back to the city and I went in search of LeBoy because I realized I hadn't seen him in a while. I found him backstage all sweaty (seriously, I didn't even ask what he'd been up to) and then we decided to make use of our VIP wristbands and drink for freeeeeeeee. Trevor & LeBoy exchanged stories about meeting Michael Stipe (Trevor, FTW) and then we raced with our beers out to watch Muse.

I've never seen Muse live before. Oh. Wow. I was blown away. Okay, I was a little inebriated, but when I heard the beginning of "Time is Running Out" (possibly my favorite Muse song) I flipped and almost spilled my beer everywhere.

LeBoy and I left a few songs into My Chemical Romance's set. We were flippin' exhausted and didn't think we would be able to make it into the city for the Bamboozle Afterparty at--you guessed it!--Angels&Kings. We got invites to the Giants Stadium Players Club to watch the Mayweather vs De La Hoya fight. Yeah, apparently the fight was a big deal. I was there for the free beer.

MC Hammer was also there, and but $1000 on Mayweather to win. At the end of the night we spotted him counting out a bunch of bills to this seven year old kid. What? Yeah, well, he was stoked.

Jeff from Cartel and LeBoy almost threw down in their challenge, but the bar was not equipped to handle such a monumental task. We hung with Neil Rubenstein, LeBoy's comedian friend, who's pretty damn hilarious. They asked him to hand out the Bamboozle awards. LeBoy gladly accepted "Bamboozle Class Clown" for the Great American Freedom Machine (I guess he kinda looks like the keyboard player?) and Neil wanted to keep Cute is what We Aim For's "Class Flirt" award and pawn it on eBay. Guessing by the amount of kids I saw decked in Cute Is Whatlaksjdf;asdkf merch that day, he'll probably make a pretty penny.

We saw some more of LeBoy's friends as the hours wound down... We finished the night dancing with inebriated members of Limbeck and trying to find a cab to the hotel. It was completely deserted at 3 am and the ferris wheel (of death) was even creepier.

DAY TWO!

Wow, this is one long-winded post, huh?!

We got there just in time for The Matches set. Their live shows always rock. You can't beat great songs + good live shows. How disappointing is it when your favorite band's live show sucks but their songs are so good? The Matches rule!

Neil did his comedy routine on the Pass the Mic stage - it was hilarious, even though it's soooo not the right venue for good comedians. At one point this woman in the front row dressed in denim shorts, a shirt off one shoulder, gold necklaces, beer in one hand, and big curly hair (oh riiiiiight, we're in New Jersey!) came running into the front obviously excited. Why? The Rangers just scored! Yeah! ...wait, what?

I was super-stoked for Sunday because one of my favorite bands evar, Monty Are I, was playing! I've known those dudes forever, and I was just soooo excited to see them, their set (which never, NEVER disappoints) and all the people they always bring (Ben! John!). Their set was AMAZING - they get better every time. They bring that epic shit and I pump my fist in apprecation always. It was pretty hilarious after the show when I wanted to say hi to Steve, but he was bombarded with fans. It kind of made me proud - is that weird? Anyway, after a few minutes of lollygagging around, I finally got to catch up with my old friend. Of course, the first thing I pointed out was that his Brandon Flowers-attempt-at-a-blazer was actually a woman's blazer (who's having Office flashbacks?!). They're touring with Amber Pacific and Powerspace right now - so check them out if you haven't already!

Also, Andrew told all the guys to greet me as "Hey, Spanish." Thanks, I'm Panamanian - not Spanish! And this coming from the dude who gave me the nickname Jessiska. FanxxxxxxMontyAreI.

Notables: I got to meet Steven from Steven's Untitled Rock Show - another friend of LeBoy's. They were filming a Fuse segment with Andrew McMahon. Steven was awesome, though I didn't say much, because if I did it would have probably been along the lines of "Yo, I watch you every night at 7 on Fuse. I love when you answer viewer questions from fans like fobatthedisco873!" And that would be me. Classic Awky Jessica. I decided not to embarass LeBoy.

Then LeBoy and I decided to be reckless...and...go on the Ferris Wheel (Of Death)! After waiting in the line for a while, we got LOCKED in and basically it just twirls with the weight of the car, except you can use the wheel to turn the car however you please. LeBoy thought it would be hilarious to twirl A LOT. So, I almost got sick...a lot. But it was fun. I enjoyed watching the beginning of Jack's Mannequin's set upside down 500 feet in the air (that measurement is a total guesstimation, as I have no real concept of space...at all). I also enjoyed trying to have a romantic kiss up there, but that probably would have ended up in *us* barfing and not the usual cast of spectators we induce vomiting in. Sexy!

We caught the rest of Jack's Mannequin's set - I got what I wanted: "Dark Blue" and "Bruised." Then we chatted a bit with Steve again, Erin G., and Dan from Sherwood. Dan is one of the nicest dudes evarrrrrr. Seriously, so sweet.

Said bye to Steve and then headed to the VIP tent again. Beer me! We then caught Weird Al's performance which was hysterical! We were also laughing really hard due to the massive consumption of beer we'd just had, though I think LeBoy took it harder than me. At the end of Al's set, I was all ready to go because we had agreed to skip out on the lamest Bamboozle headliner ever, Linkin' Park, but apparently LeBoy had to get out some male aggression. We set our scene in the Atticus tent with a few other VIPs who decided to go CRAZY to LP's first song - which apparently is popular and the only song LeBoy's heard of theirs, but I have no idea what it was. Classic stuff. At one point he fell back into the Atticus merch boxes, collided his skull with his friend Christian's, and basically was doing a lot of yelling and moshing. Oh the drunkeness. I have pictures, and you will be seeing them soon.

Exhausted, we finally headed back to our hotel. But then we got a second wind and decided to go to a nearby Chili's restaurant. LeBoy and I are the only ones sitting at the bar and we decide to get margaritas and have a nice chat (our conversations could go on for hours) when I see Powerspace walk in with their tour manager Bob D. Bob D. recently friend requested me because Steve from Monty Are I told him to. I'd never actually met him, so with a bit of tequila in me I did the honorable & awkward thing and said my hello, congratulated the band on a good set, and told him that Steve says hi. I don't think they're old enough to drink yet, plus, they'd just gotten there. Who's this awkward girl?!

So, back at the bar, LeBoy and I are talking and then Shawn from The Matches walks in with their guitar tech, Ben. They sidle in next to us and we order another round of margaritas and decide to play uno. At the bar. At Chili's. In Secaucus, New Jersey. Shawn won three times, I won once, and LeBoy won twice or something. I really sucked for some reason. I usually win A LOT at uno.

It was a good ending to Bamboozle. I probably wouldn't have recovered too well if I had gone out and partied crazy every night (last year was a bit like that...). I mean, I needed to get back to the city Monday morning! Working Girl Are I. Though I still haven't caught up on my sleep. Gah.

If you get through this entry, YOU WIN AT LIFE. This is such a tl;dr post.

All I need is to make it all right... [04.16.07]

Quick entry about things I'm currently obsessed with...

1. PEEPS & this contest:

Lloyd Dobbler in PEEP form?!

2. Gwen Stefani's on the latest cover of Bazaar. The photoshoot has a My Fair Lady theme, one of my fave musicals...and she looks gorgeous. But when does she not?

3. Ryan Adams. Because it always comes back to him. ALWAYS. I phase through a lot of stuff in my life - but I'm constantly obsessed with this man's music. Maybe it's because there's so damn much of it. It's the beauty of perpetual discovery. Right now I'm loving "Dance All Night" and "Monday Night."

4. Spring cleaning. I ravaged my room. I filtered my clothes. I found pieces of clothing I forgot existed. It's amazing. I also found some awesome stuff I though I had lost forever. Yeah!

5. This next week. Woah! I finally got my first paychecks on Friday, so it's spendin' time. Haircuts! Eating out! Shopping! I just want to buy nice things for a change.

6. These people. They get me through the work day!

7. Like stated in my previous entry, I'm pretty fucking stoked for MAY.

Try it for sleeping instead... [04.10.07]

I need this L.A.M.B. watch:

However, it's $325. I think I'm going to start saving.

Also, I want one of these:

That is a toyger. It's a special breed of domestic cat made to have tiger stripes. It's probably thousands of dollars, but...I'm obsessed. OBSESSED. I've been missing animals lately. I haven't held a cat in forever. I want to go to pet stores just to pet cats. However, most pet stores I see in the city only have dogs. So I've been checking out toygers pretty much on a daily basis. Also cute? Bengal kittens.

OMFG how cuted out are you right now?! I'm writing at work (shhh) and I'm silently flipping out at all these cat pictures. Can I has katz now?!?!?!??!

Also, I might need this shirt:

I was kind of obsessed with 90210 - the early years. AND DYLAN.

In other news, I found a website with sheet music for Ryan Adams songs. And I'm totally unburying my keyboard from my parent's basement and at least learning "Come Pick Me Up." I don't know why. I don't know what use it would be of to me, but maybe, someday, I'll understand why I must do this.

I've been wasting a lot of time today at work.

I'm stoked for the month of May. I think it's going to be rather great. Here are some reasons why:

1. May 3rd means everything is all right fucking awesome.

2. Bamboozle is already shaping up to be legendary, even if just for the people watching I so love to partake in with my best girls. There are great bands playing [woah Muse what?!] and awful bands [Cute is What We Aim For BARF] and a bunch of secret-name bands [Great American Freedom Machine?!] to whet my curiosity. More amazing than the barrage of crappy bands that are playing are the people who come to SEE those crappy bands. Those audiences are tasty trash-talking buffets. In a similar example: last year Erica and I spotted a boy in a Mest shirt. Really? Mest? SERIOUSLY?

3. There will be making out.

4. Monty Are I show @ the Knitting Factory. Holler! Haven't seen those kids since January, so I'm stoked for another one of their fantastic live shows. Who's coming with me? [Edit: Okay, I just remembered that Monty Are I is playing at Bamboozle - so I will see them there too. Double stoked oreos!]

5. Many events have been planned for the Curbside Gang. Not that you're invited.

6. Getting to see my friends before work. And so starts the outdoor summer concerts for the Today show. Just a few blocks from my work, I can check out bands like All-American Rejects at 8 am before work with my girls and then head to the cube. Um, chyeah.

7. Making out.

8. THREE DAY WEEKEND! My parents 25th Anniversary vow renewal-slash-reception-slash-boozefest. There will be love. There will be booze.

9. The fact that it's April 11th and I've got a working itinerary for May? That means May will be out of this world. FACT.

10. Maybe it will actually get warm. And I can make out some more.

11. WALLZ ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! My paycheck equals solitude and privacy.

12. It's the month before Ryan Adams new album comes out. Oh shit. OH. SHIT. Easy Tiger. 06.26.07.

Tonight I'm dancing it up with my girls @ Sutra. Last night I went to bed passed out at 10 pm. But what more could entice me than an open bar, good peoples, and good music?

C! C is for seeing through you! [04.05.07]

I know, I know...it's been a while. Not that I expect anyone to care, but for posterity's sake, I might as well update so one day I can look back at these blogs and laugh heartily at my silly need to post the inane details of my life on the internet.

I can't really begin to catch anybody up on what's going on in my life, suffice to say that my life since February 17th (my last real update) has changed in a few ways. I'm incredibly happy.

Some of the highlights from the past month -

- I'm a shadow extra in the latest Cartel music video ! Check them out if you haven't already...I pretty much know everybody's gonna know them and their name by the end of this year.

- I met a boy and we hung out. And I told him I liked him one night. He took me on the most amazing first date ever.

- One of my BEST FRIENDS EVER Amber came to visit. FINALLY. It'd been two years since I saw her face. And when I saw it, you know what I did? I punched her.

- Kelly's birthday, which is always legendary, was once again celebrated with sophistication and quiet aplomb...at a bar, completely wasted, with five girls who talked about unicorns all night, and then at another bar...that smelled like pee...and there was Akon & dancing on tables...what?

- My mom and dad celebrated their 25th year together. They're like crazy happy and it's cute and downright sickening at the same time.

- Apartment 410 had about 8 million visitors in the months of February and March. No joke. I think at one point we had 10 people in our place.

- I got a freakin' awesome new job. YES.

- I've always hated The Format. Seriously. Hate. They opened for a bunch of cool bands and freakin' sucked. Then that boy I've been hanging out with put a song of theirs on a playlist for me...and then I got the album...and now I really like them. Things change.

- I'm still dancing it up every chance I get. Obviously.

- My boyfriend commemorated our first date with an even better date one month later. And then he took me to Philadelphia because I'd never been. We make our friends vomit and strangers gag when seen together.

- Still superheroes.

- There have been some legendary nights at Alligator Lounge, Private Men's Club, Revolver, and High Voltage in the past month.

- Jesse and I discovered TOYGERS. And I want one.

- Apartment 410 began the Game Night tradition this week. Board games. Sorry, Uno, Scattegories, Clue. We're dorks and we LOVE IT. We invited others to witness our perpetual nerdiness.

- I've not had time to watch tv. I know, right? ME. Or be in on the celeb gossip much anymore. I know, right? ME. Even my interwebz lurking time is at an all-time low. I may or may not choose to catch up. Everything's kind of hectic right now. I'm completely lacking sleep as well.

- There haven't been any trainwreck nights!

Then lots of other stuff happened. That's your debriefing. Honestly, I'm surprised to be where I am right now. If you had told me a year ago...nay, two months ago...what it'd be like now - I would be shocked.

I hope to update more regularly...but I'm not making any promises. In case I don't, I can say that my future plans include kicking ass at my job, getting a haircut, practicing to prepare vegetarian meals, visiting my parents this Easter weekend, hanging out with the Curbside Gang, dancing a lot, getting used to video chat, and shopping. Lots of shopping in my future. And walls!

I'm addicted to words and they're useless... [02.17.07]

I'm going to write this in five minutes awshooooooooot. So it's really random. And short. And not written well. People don't like to read.

Thursday night chinese food & Volver with JustinMA. Pedro Almodovar & Penelope together as they always should be. I've decided that every piece of clothing I buy from now on must look like it came from that movie.

Aaron Eckhart to play Harvey Dent aka Two-Face in The Dark Knight?! YES. Yes, yes yes yes yes yes. YES! Chris Nolan & Chris Bale back. Awaiting the female lead...since Katie Holmes is...I can't even think of a joke for that here.

I got a drunk IM the other night (oh, the best kind) where a dude said "nice tits" about 25 times, among other things. He called today to say hi, and had no recollection of said IM. I love when other people's drunken nights of debauchery get technology-sloppy to me, and not the other way around.

Last night went to see Evil Dead: The Musical with Mike. Hilarity ensued. Uneven first act, but once the lead started getting into the maniacal Ash, I was so into it. Voices were nice. Actors sprayed blood EVERYWHERE in the finale massacre scene. I was laughing to the point of crying. Also, made me wish that Bruce Campbell was in my life more often.

Made it back to Brooklyn for CRAZY hangs with like fifteen people. Went to Royal Oak where Rachel was sophisticatedly propositioned by a hipster on his way to the bathroom: "I have to shit, want to dance?"

Headed to Capones with our new friend Jesse of Motion City Soundtrack. Um. Last week at the Cartel afterparty I told him all about how his band is amazing and how I got into them and stuff; yeah, I was that girl. But he's totes nice. And kind of into my friend, so I think he forgave me. There's hilarious video of us waiting in the subway...it'll be up soonz. Quote from video:

"Jesse from Motion City Soundtrack is trying to make me cool."

False. The fact that I said that makes me absolutely never able to be cool. Whatevs.

Upon waking up this morning and seeing the pictures of Britney Spears drunk and shaving her own head, my roommate Rachel says, "Do not ever feel like a trainwreck again." Sweet.

Grey's Anatomy made me cry my balls out. Wait. Scratch that. Made me ball my eyes out. Hmmm. Derrick crying in the hallway?! Geez. Waterworks Are I.

Erica and I ventured into the city today for technological upgrades. I got a fucking sidekick. My ambition to be cool does not falter despite knowing I will always be a dork. Inevitable destiny. Went into T-Mobile. Young man goes, "Can I help you?" I point to Erica's sidekick: "She has one. I want one." Went to the Apple Store. Erica and I were kind of in heaven. I can't wait to upgrade to a fucking new computer + iPod. I'd be embarrassed to say what I'm working with now.

Karaoke tonight!

---------------------------

For the record: I got a 32-year-old married dude into Fall Out Boy. He asked me what I was listening to on the day the album came out, and I had to admit it. "Who is Fall Out Boy??" He digs o digs.

Someone I dig o dig:

Go see Volver.

And I don't care, cause I'm a rock n roll machine [12.14.07]

Two weeks ago:
Me: Totally sticking to beer from now on.

Last night:
Erin: I'm getting you a shot! Tequila!
Me: Absolutely NO tequila.
Erin: SoCo & Lime!
Me: ...okay.

After the shots: hey, how about five million voda cranberries?

After the vodka cranberries: on the ground, in the snow.

Valentines day spent between Erin (flight got cancelled) and Erica on the couch watching Desmond lose his fucking mind on Lost.

Me: He's so fucking hot. Like...tan hot.
Erin: He's kinda haiiiiiry.
Me: I love that.

I could stretch that penny like a silver line... [02.12.07]

Fantastic weekend.

Last week was full of the day job and then writing at night. I didn't go out much.

Thursday night met up with the girls at the Continental for some drinks. Permanent Me invited us to their hotel room so we swung by at midnight and chilled. There were Miller Lites and conversations regarding Teen Bop magazine.

Friday night was the Permanent Me/Girls Like Boys/Cobra Starship/Cartel show @ the Nokia Theater. For some reason, ever since I moved to New York, my sense of direction has gone berserk. Erica saves me all the time - I'd never been to Nokia and we're walking in Times Square and I'm like, "well, it's probably on the right side of the street..." and just start marching across and Erica is yelling at me to STOP and she points up and there's all these flashing lights and huge signs to our left that say "Nokia" and whatnot. Misguided Loser Are I.

Sarah and Jeff got Erica & I up in that piece ('cause they're pretty much awesome) and we proceeded to take in some drink. We watched Cobra from the side of the stage, and I was obviously dancing along because...it's fucking dance music. I saw Rob after they played and he goes, "Yeah, I saw you dancing over there!" - almost as if I'm supposed to be embarrassed. I don't cares. I'm okay being that girl. Of course, I rocked out to Cartel as well. I love hearing "Burn this City" live...During the set Erica and I saw a janitor in the back hallway. He had a defiant look on his face as he stood there with a mop and steam was coming from a door behind him (what??) when he goes: "I fucking hate this music!" Woah, janitor. Priceless.

Afterwards we headed to Revolver for the afterparty. There was much dancing. Craziness. Good craziness. Not like the previous week's craziness. Good good good craziness. That is all.

Erica and I went home with Sarah and Rob Wonder - who is fucking hilarious, by the way. Erica and I slept on the couch wrapped in blankets and I'm pretty sure I went to sleep with a smile on my face.

I woke up on Saturday morning to Monkey jumping in my face, but I was not perturbed in the least because he's the most adorable dog of all effin' TIME. I snuck out into the sun, and it was too amazing of a weather-day to not take it in a bit. I went to Macy's and decided to check out all the floors there...and then got lost and couldn't find an exit for 20 minutes (only me...). I frantically texted Erica: "I'm fucking lost in Macy's. I can't get out!!" I don't know how she was supposed to help me? I suppose it was a reflex, because I always turn to her when I get lost (see: previously mentioned moment of directional idiocy).

When I got home, I stayed on the couch all night. I was going to meet up with Mike because I severely owe him some hanging out time, but the shuttles were running the L and I didn't want to do that all by myself on my way home in the wee hours of the morning. Phil and Dan were apparently expecting me to provide the dance party fun, but I was pooooped. I was also bummed I didn't get to see Meesh, one of my favorite girls on the planet.

Also, Monty Are I was playing at the School of Rock in New Jersey, but we couldn't figure out how to get there sans-car. Steve called after they played and he said it was an awesome show - the sound rules there and I was a bit bummed to have missed it. It was doubly sad when he said he wanted to show me the latest cuts on the "Between the Sheets" video and some new stuff they're working on. Dammit. He's such a fucking turdburgler.

However, things turned out for the better when Rawan popped open a bottle of wine and we found a VHS copy of The Little Mermaid. It's strange how much we remembered as we watched that movie. It's so amazing. I also may or may not have gotten up and shook it up a little when the "Under the Sea" scene came on.

Sunday the entire apartment woke up real late. I won't even tell you how late. We then had an official clean-o-rama of the apartment and settled in to watch the Grammy's. They're probably the worst of the major award shows. I didn't even want to watch them. Some notes: Sting still looks good; I'd definitely be a slave 4 Justin Timberlake; Mandy Moore looked straight up horrible; and the contest winner singing with JT & TI pulled it off! She is my new hero. Jennifer Hudson reads that you've been voted to perform live with JT at the mother effin' Grammys and you have to walk up stage and just do it?! ... !?!?!?!?! She belted it out, looked hot, and blew everyone away. She will probably have a contract by morning.

My former [insane in that amazing way] roommate Erin is in town tonight!! She lives all the way out in California now, and I haven't seen her since last summer, and I'm looking forward to her crazy antics. She has a job interview tomorrow morning, so tonight's a tame one. However, tomorrow night we've already got some open bar happenings and the usual happenings...and I'm looking forward to the nostalgia I'll feel as I either a) hold back her hair lovingly b) hold back her tiny fists from punching someone in a drunken stupor or c) hold back my laughter as she gets into a political debate about Hillary Clinton at 3 am with another drunkard on the subway. Entertainment is only a shot away...

File under Miscellaneous:

- Ran into Jen at Revolver. WOAH. She's tight with Can't Face the Falling, and I've known her since the Rhode Island days, and she saw me and was like, "hey!" and I'm pretty sure I didn't know who she was at first. Last person I expected to see in New York. She's was there with her boyfriend from As Tall as Lions...Also: she's gorgeous; legit babe.

- A bartender at Revolver when Erica & I went to get a drink: "Hey, were you girls here last week?" "Uhhh..." "Yeah, I remember you dancing..." We smiled, nodded, bowed heads in shame.

- Yeah! for Sarah & Rob Wonder ending the night with some Monty Are I and all my girls being the last ones in the joint and just rocking OUT to it.

- I started off 2007 a little cynical, given the late events of 2006. However, I think this weekend broke me of that. At least for now.

- Do I say "Erica & I" too much? Oh wait - we're the same person, nevermind. The last couple of days has been pretty weird because we're at that creepy point in a relationship (yeah, I'm using that term) where we finish each other's sentences and make the same joke at the same time. I'd like to be kidding, but I'm not. This was solidified by the fact that a dude called Erica thinking it was me and didn't catch that we were two different people.

- Watching the last episode of Grey's Anatomy on Saturday in hangover mode was NOT the best idea. It was the most intense hour of television, and I got a lot bit queasy at the graphic stuff. We even had to mute one part. The face of the woman Karev was saving gave me nightmares. I couldn't deal with the end; Erica and I both screamed in surprise.

- One of the best episodes of The Soup ever. The Cheaters clip = rewound and rewatched about five million times.

- The ten minute director's cut of JT's "What Goes Around" starring Scarlett Johanssen is INTENSE. The interludes are intimate and well-done. The ending is crazy, but I really love the video. Ooooooh make out.

- I'm friends with AIMEE from Bad Girls Club on MySpace. Ohsnaaaaaaap. I sent her a message asking how I can learn to put on eye makeup like her without using a whole stick of eyeliner each application. She did not respond.

- If you know anything about me, you know I'm mildly obsessed with Ryan Adams. I bought the latest issue of Spin for the last-page article entitled: "Awww Shit, Look Who Got a Website" (Also the name of the song on his official homepage). I'm that devoted fan that listened to all those songs on his website and flipped the fuck out for them. By myself. I need to find somebody just as obsessed to lay in bed with me, listen and crack up until we cry. Preferably this dude:

- I should probably not put this in miscellaneous and just write a whole post about my opinion regarding the internet and how it's changed...everything...but who would care? I picked up New York magazine because it has a girl taking a picture of herself on the cover with this copy blocking out her probably nude body: "i am not interested in privacy. online, i reveal everything--my breakups, my bank balance, my breakfast cereal, my body. my parents call it shameless. i call it freedom." The article is okay - nothing too special or original - but I had never heard the phenomena put this way:

Younger people, one could point out, are the only ones for whom it seems to have sunk in that the idea of a truly private life is already an illusion. Every street in New York has a surveillance camera. Each time you swipe your debit card at Duane Reade or use your MetroCard, that transaction is tracked. Your employer owns your e-mails. The NSA owns your phone calls. Your life is being lived in public whether you choose to acknowledge it or not.

- There's a new dude at work whose hero is Brando and is a devoted method actor. I made the mistake of asking, "So, what's that like?" And then he proceeded to detail me on how he studies people. He described the way I ate lunch and spoke with my hands. Oh.......cool. [cue nervous laughter]

I write too much.

She kisses when she sleeps... [02.08.07]

I'm working on an article with a deadline on Friday and I needed a break. I break from writing by...writing?

Moving on. It's been one of the busiest weeks on record. It's excruciatingly painful waiting for the weekend.

Random musings.

This week's Gilmore Girls was decent for a change. Emily Gilmore and Logan's characters finally reappear. Also. I don't like blonde dudes, but if that Logan ever wanted me...

The next Monty Are I video is going to be amazing, according to Steve. He rolls around in bed/makes out with a Johnny Cupcakes model - just saying.

Lost with Erica, Sarah, and Brandon tonight. Solid episode. Stoked for the rest of the season. Can't wait for The Soup to start a Lost Rave and have Mankini out there dancing in front of the brainwash room. Also: what's with the brainwash room?! Also: Jack all scruffy in white scrubs. That is all.

There was about 10 cops hanging out at my subway stop today for five hours. Awesome!!!!

I'm getting a sidekick next Thursdayish. Two things will happen: 1. Befuddled scientists everywhere will become engrossed in the fact that I am the only person whose sidekick didn't add legit cool points to. Is our coolness-o-meter broken or are you just that lame? 2. You thought I was dorky here. MySpace. The interwebz. Can't wait for my sidekick nerd to emerge. Most Awkward Sidekick User in the World Award 2007.

I really want to fly somewhere by myself and get lost for a week or two.

I've been listening to only two super-catchy albums this week. I ride the subway to work and can't stop smiling.

I hate complainers. TO THE MAX. And passive-aggressiveness.

My momz is getting me a subscription to Latina magazine. It's a pretty great magazine content-wise. And I'm obsessed with magazines.

This week has just been work 9-6 and then writing at night. I'm exhausted. But I like finishing ahead of deadlines.

Tomorrow I shall sleep. Friday I will probably not.

Mental earthquakes, conversation mistakes... [02.04.07]

My big toe on my left foot has been numb since Wednesday.

On Tuesday, Kelly, Erica, Jiscilla, and I had big plans for Christy. It was her 24th birthday at midnight, and when we found out that Young Love was having an album release performance/party, we had to surprise her with it. I decided to borrow roommate Rawan's boots for the evening, even though her feet are two sizes bigger than mine. [Sidenote: I have the smallest feet in the apartment and I wish I could share shoes with these girls.] I believe the boots are to blame for my toe's tingly-ness. I can still wiggle it and everything, but I'm hoping it regains full toe abilities soon.

Christy was UBER surprised about the Young Love show + open bar. Sarah was DJ'ing and when she played The Photo Atlas, I flipped out a little bit. When Young Love took the stage, we were in the front, shaking our hips to "Discotech." Also in the front were a barrage of hipster photographers and Bronques from lastnightsparty kept on taking pictures of me and all I could think of was "Oh shit, please don't let me end up on Blue States Lose. Shit. Shit. Shit." [Sidenote: Friday came along. Phew. Not there.]

I must take a moment to commemorate the fact that the party was at none other than the same loft Purevolume sponsored during CMJ week. It's pretty much the best place ever. The only bad thing (it's really quite atrocious) is that there is only one bathroom. Just one. Post-Young Love Jiscilla and I stood in line for a good half-hour. Luckily, the line was also a party. Though, towards the end Jiscilla and I were basically just doing the ihavetofuckingpeelikearacehorse dance.

On Thursday I was an extra in a music video. I'll post more about it when it comes out, but it was a pretty hilarious-in-a-super-awkward-way experience. I had to pretend to fight a friend and it was just too funny that I kept smiling while I yelled. Ooooooops. I'm sure the video will be awesome. The band's last video was sweet, and it's the same director.

When I got home Erica and a Stolen Transmission intern were working on screening the shirts for the Permanent Me album release show. I basically went to sleep surrounded by drying tee shirts. The next day, Erica and I woke up early and banged out the second layer of the screening. I'm serious when I say I got a work out. It was like doing a straight hour and a half of squats. Bend to place new shirt, take painted shirt to drying area, bend down to get newly painted shirt...

Erica and I then headed to the Island/Def Jam offices to drop off the tees, and as we were signing ourselves in, I caught fluorescent clothing in my peripheral vision. I turned to see Fall Out Boy's Patrick Stump waiting behind us in line. I jabbed Erica a couple of times, but she didn't know what I was trying to signal her for. [Sidenote: I AM A NERD.] So we pick up this large bin of t-shirts together and start walking the wrong way  to go up the escalators, and three security guards are like, "Wrong way! Wrong way!" and we're not paying attention because at this point I'm squealing under my breath that Patrick Stump was behind us in line. When we finally realized the yelling/commotion was about us, we walked back around the right way and basically made a really awesome first impression with the dude whose leaked album I've been swooning the past couple of weeks. By the way, they were signing in to see Jay-Z. Whatevs.

On Friday night, Erica and I became Trainwrecks Are I. Both of us. We went to Revolver with some friends already liquored up on wine. We were buzzed and feeling the dance party Gurj was providing. Sarah got their post-midnight (aka her BIRTHDAY!!!) and proceeded to get a tequila shot for the three of us. It was shortly after this moment that I lost my memory of the rest of the night. I woke up on Saturday morning on my couch wrapped in Rawan's fur coat.

Wha happened?!

There is a reason tequila hasn't touched my lips in a few years. People started filling in the giant gap in my memory. Christy contends that a bartender was feeding me free drinks. Rachel has photos of me slipping and falling on the ground - I will probably post them. Brandon told me I got sick in the bathroom. Perry said I was straight up wasted-face. Justin and Tyler recounted how they got me home safely and put me in bed with Rachel and Rawan's help (but I still woke up on the couch?!). Erica did not help at all because she was struck with the same affliction. Luckily, I don't think I was a danger to my cell phone. There seemed to be no phone calls made, and only one text made - and the text was so incoherent: "fuf bode" Yikes. I can't for the life of me figure out what I was trying to say. Also, I saw that Steve had called me three times and texted me because he was just as wasted-face in New Orleans. Craziness was occurring everywhere.

I recount all this publicly because that amount of messiness cannot happen again. Okay, I'm 23, time to move along...get with the program...become sophisticated. Right.

On Saturday Erica and I were curled up in her bed watching the Lizzie Maguire Movie when we remembered we were going to Long Island for the Permanent Me album release show. We picked ourselves up some Taco Bell and headed to the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR). When we arrived at the temple the show was at, we were NOT expecting what we found. We were a) the oldest people there b) false - the chaperoning parents were and c) omg high school. We awkwardly [Sidenote: there are very few times that Erica and I are not awkward] stood on the outskirts of the crowd trying to avoid the flailing limbs of pubescent moshers.

The shirts seemed to be a success, and Permanent Me ended the show with an awesome set. They will be on part of the upcoming Boys Like Girls/Cartel/Cobra Starship tour, so check them ooooout! Erica and I then headed back to the LIRR station for the 1217 am train. How effin' tired were we??

When we got on the L train to head into Brooklyn, we were on a party train. One of the street performers at Union Square got on the train and continued to blast Madonna and Prince from her portable speaker. The crowd loved it. Everybody was clapping, cheering, dancing - it is probably in my top New York moments. ALSO - I have video of it. Fucking hilarious! Coming soon...

And now it is Sunday afternoon and I am typing this from the comforts of my bed. This week: Fall Out Boy album comes out [Erica and I will be purchasing it because we promised Doug.] LOST returns - flip outs with Sarah and Brandon will ensue. Aforementioned PM/BLG/Cartel/CobraStarship tour on Friday with an afterparty that I'm sure will produce more stories (this time I will remember them.)

Random:

The Office was HILARIOUS. Benjamin Franklin impersonator?!!?! Pam's "Ohhhh..." when he tells her his real name had me in tears. I just feel like I've said that same "Oh" way too many times in my life.

I saw that movie Crank starring Jason Statham. Woah craziness. It was actually pretty good, as action flicks go. Craziest action movie sex scene everrrrrr.

Okay, a few weeks ago I got a call from Laurel Touby because she wanted to interview me for a position I had applied for. Apparently, other applicants got this email. I'm a religious Gawker reader. Anyway, I feel good that I was actually interviewed, and even a little better that over 200 people applied for the job. This makes me feel better about not actually getting the job. I have a decent job and I'm freelance writing/editing, so things ended up for the best anyway. Also, after meeting with Touby, I don't know why Gawker gives her such bad press. Though, I suppose the e-mail was a worthy post.

One day last week Erica left her Sidekick at home and I got to take care of it all day. My cell phone (small, dated, frail and the antithesis of cool) contract ends in a couple of months, so I think I've made the decision to buy a Sidekick. Oh snap!! I've always stayed away from that stuff because I don't really care to be in constant communication with people. But a new age is dawning. JK. Whatever, I'm just going to get one and become an addict.

Okay, I'm ending this humongo post (seriously, you read to this point??) with a hilarious plot summary from IMDB:

Jack and Diane, two teenage lesbians, meet in New York City and spend the night kissing ferociously. Diane's charming innocence quickly begins to open Jack's tough skinned heart. But, when Jack discovers that Diane is leaving the country in a week she tries to push her away. Diane must struggle to keep their love alive while hiding the secret that her newly awakened sexual desire occasionally turns her into a werewolf.

The last sentence for the win.

Just anchor and hope... [02.01.07]

On Monday night Erica, Rachel and I were at our computers with the FUSE channel on as background noise (it wasn't time for Heroes, yet) and all of a suddenz, I hear "I don't wanna be your loverrrrrrrr" coming from the box. I ran to the television, as did Erica, and there was Monty Are I! It was a commercial and it had video from their holiday shows in Rhode Island (my girls and I roadtripped to...). The commercial also features Permanent Me!

We obviously FLIPPED and then I called Steve and he was like, "Oh, yeah, I forgot to tell you about that..." Pfft. Enjoy. And go buy the effin' album already and check out their TOUR or I will be mad.

Let the Good Times Roll... [01.29.07]

Currently feeding my insomniatic (?) tendencies with Season 3 of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and my couch. I did not find David Boreanaz hot until I started watching this show. The only other guy I've been crushing is Joel McHale of The Soup. Dude would be my perfect husband. And I'm lovin' the scruff he's sporting lately.

Moving on!

Had a great week. Hanging out with the Monty Are I boys always guarantees that. On Tuesday night at Black & White I had my two favorite boys on the planet - Steve & Ben - and all my girrrrrrls. I lurve them.

Thursday was the best day I've had in quite a while. I had a spectacular meeting with two [amazing] women who hired me freelance to write articles for their website and edit other articles. I won't say anything more, but it's particularly exciting. I walked out of that meeting with a huge grin on my face, and I didn't care at all that the wind was basically sloughing off my face one skin layer at a time.

Also, I kind of celebrated my good-moodiness by flipping out to the new Fall Out Boy on the subway ride home. I make no apologies for how dorky I am. "Thnks Fr Th Mmrs" = current flip out anthem.

Friday was freezing, but I worked on an article and anticipated the arrival of Rawan's cousin Sabrina. We dance partied at Revolver and enjoyed some dollar hot dogs on the way home. Erica obviously had her slathered in cheese.

On Saturday mah girls and I headed to Hoboken to visit Christy. Think of a group of 13-year-olds getting together to squeal about music, boys, gossip, make-up...and then add wine to the equation. We digress into childhood shenanigans a lot. Jiscilla arrived just as Christy, Kelly, and Erica were flipping out about Christy's Christmas decorations and the fact that she harbored a lot of Cracker Barrel paraphernalia and not one but two mini nativity sets. Named Minz Nativz and Minz-Minz Nativz. By the way, this sounds completely askew when written. It's still just as uncool, though.

Jiscilla made over Christy, Erica, and I and then took pictures of us because we are girls and this was a sleepover. Then we dance partied in the living room to some videos on MTV Hits. I think it all started with Young Love's new video, which [dance] ROCKS! You can see moments from this sleepover in the pictures, along with Jiscilla's make-over of me and the subsequent photo shoot we obviously had to have.

The next morning we made it to Hoboken's City Bistro for some fine brunch dining and drinks. I personally had strawberry pancakes slathered in vanilla-cinnamon syrup. How good does that sound?!!?! It was amazing.

Okay, it's now Monday night and I'm wrapping this up. I'm laaazy.

Random bits:

If you haven't seen this yet, we're not friends. It's a YouTube'd "misheard lyrics" video for Fall Out Boy's "This Ain't a Scene..." Also into cats!!!!!!!!!

Prepared to get CUTED OUT ----------------

Cutest baby EVER?!

I got a Harajuku Lovers tote today for 50% off at TJ Maxx. I love good deals. I also got a dress with hearts on it because it was adorable and it makes me look five.

This week = Young Love's album release TOMORROW!, Christy's birthday on Wednesday!, I'm an extra in a music video on Thursday, and a Permanent Me cd release show this weekend that Erica is making 100 tee shirts for (and I'm helping!!).

Oh, and also, Erica & I saw Little Miss Sunshine this week and I'm not kidding when I say little Abigail Breslin totes reminds me of Erica at times. And apparently she was like her as a kid. AND she loved the little pink shorts/red tee outfit...so I made THIS:

Now it's time for television...

Through sheets you will teach and I will learn... [01.23.07]

While still deathly ill, I managed to make it to the Annex last night for the Stolen Transmission Benefit Show for puppies and kitties. Erica, Rachel, Meesh and I met up with Steve and Justin from Monty Are I before the show and grabbed some pizza. Mainly because Steve only eats pizza and if any sauce besides marinara were to enter his system he would suddenly lose the ability to play mind-blowing solos. Sorta like Samson.

The show started out with an acoustic Oohlas performance; Ollie is the most adorable frontwoman!! They didn't have the drummer around, so the set was the most quiet of the night, but Ollie's voice still captured the place. And their jokes about puppies and kitties that I can't even repeat here.

It was Bright Light Fever's first NYC show and they were particularly impressive. They have great energy and are another solid band on the Stolen Transmission label - they got me moving in the audience along to the beat...

Monty Are I took the stage and mah girls and I headed to the front for primo rock-out spots. We flipped as soon as they started playing "Anchor & Hope." These boys NEVER FAIL live. Any technical glitches are always outweighed by their sheer energy and talent. They're tight and intense the whole way through. They slowed it down a bit with "Just In Time" and then when Ryan & Steve started harmonizing to the beginning of "Between the Sheets" ("I don't want to be your lover/I just want to be myself") I got chills. Steve complained all night about being a bit sick and not having that great of a voice (while I hacked up my lungs), but his voice, like always, sounded amazing. He's so dedicated to this band and his music, and it's on plain view when he plays - this is how he lives, this is how he breathes.

[Sidenote: If you STILL haven't purchased Monty Are I's Wall of People - wtf??? When do I NOT talk about this band?! Have I not convinced you yet that they are worth your time?! Okay, just go buy it.]

Erica and I were particularly excited for The Photo Atlas because we flipped for them at CMJ. Once again, they got our hips shaking to the infectious beats of their songs. I'm talking I was simultaneously shaking my hips and pumping my fist - they are that much fun! I would have been screaming along had my voice made an appearance at all.

Permanent Me!!! I had just seen them last week with Fall Out Boy, but they are sooo effin' good, I was excited to see them again! They complained about the sound during the set, and then thanked the sound guy - something I mentioned to the lead singer Brian after the show, but it was hilarious. Brian also mentioned how much fun they had on the Friends of Enemies Tour. PS Permanent Me's album comes out todaaaaaay! Buy it!!!

After the shows, Monty Are I and friends were split between getting falafel or pizza. Obviously due to aforementioned marinara condition, Steve decided to get a meatball sangwich at the pizza place. A number of us dutifully followed.

Now, I've been having trouble sleeping because of cough attacks keeping me up in the middle of the night (wah wah wah, I know) and so I was sitting in said pizza place slumped in my chair basically comatose. I'd only been drinking water all night (which the bartenders at the Annex sure loved refilling my tiny glass every 5 minutes), but I was pooped. Last night I couldn't sleep again, though. Today I decided I needed sleep in order to see those boys one last time before they left on tour [with Over It - check out the dates!]. So I'm currently tingly all over because I took NyQuil. Yeah. I slept a good three hours (yay!) and then it was 630 and I was like, um, I should probably eat something and now I'm writing this to keep myself up. My lips, tongue, and fingertips are tingly all over and it's really hard to not drop my head back and pass out. It's like I'm drunk. So I hope when I post this, everything is coherent.

Today. OSCAR NOMS! My thoughts (I'm a dork about this shhhhhi...) - don't read if you don't care about other people's opinions about the nominations. Srsly.

Leonardo DiCaprio was interestingly nominated for Blood Diamond over The Departed, and I can't help but think this is an accent thing. I'm also excited for Ryan Gosling's nomination for Half Nelson - I haven't seen the movie (I'm dying to!), but I feel like young actors don't get a lot of love from the Oscars. And I think Ryan Gosling has proven himself in other roles enough to know that there's something there. Also, I was secretly hoping to see Sascha Baron Cohen get nominated for his role as Borat, just because it would be so hilarious.

In the Supporting Actor category, I was so excited to see Mark Wahlberg!!! I think the dude's got serious talent, no matter what role he's in.

The Best Actress category was pretty predictable. I know Helen Mirren will probably win, though Meryl or Judi could somewhat upset. The real upset would be an Oscar to Kate Winslet or ------ Penelope Cruz! I love Penelope, just saying.

Supporting actress: Cate Blanchett is an Oscar-fave, though I'm betting it goes to Jennifer Hudson since she has soooo much buzz. Imagine an American Idol reject winning an Oscar? Oh snap!

Screenplays: I would really enjoy seeing Borat upset The Departed. HAHA. In terms of original screenplay, I would hope Pan's Labyrinth would win, but it could get lost in translation.

Directing: Surprise that there was no nomination for Dreamgirls, and interesting that got United 93 nominated. I was also dissappointed not to see Del Toro for there for Pan's Labyrinth.

Best Picture: Woooo to Little Miss Sunshine getting in there!

Okay, so now comes the point to which Jessica must make a list of movies she must see before February 25th. I've been slacking this year since the New York move and tightness on money. However, I recently discovered a friend has an awesome media center set up in which movies (still in theaters) downloaded play directly to the tv. Um, I'll be spending some time catching up on: Babel, Half-Nelson, The Last King of Scotland, The Queen, Little Children, Notes on a Scandal.

Also. I was a little disappointed not to see more noms for Marie Antoinette. It got nominated for best costume (which were amazing), but I thought the art direction was also superb, and I might have been happy for noms for Kirsten Dunst and Sofia Coppola.

In other news, I'm still tingly but ready to brave the death-cold to hang out with those Monty Are I dudes. For probably an hour. Then I'm taking more NyQuil and hoping for a good night's sleep.

I'm watching Gilmore Girls right now, and I'm sorry, but Sebastian Bach's hair is glorious. I'm a little jealous. Also, I love Sebastian Bach.
